How many people attend the general meetings?

On a moving average over the past year, weekly attendance* at the Jersey Mikes location is 20 participants, high of 30 participants; and for the Pizzeria Tona location, attendance is 6 participants, high of 14 participants. Note attendance varies due to a number of factors, including weather, and when meetings are close to certain holidays.

* Participation counts are listed as of December 29, 2023, and they are subject to revision.

Do I have to have a rating in order to participate?

No, an official rating is not a requirement for participation. Although many participants do have an official rating.


My child[ren] enjoys playing chess. Are children allowed to participate in club activities?

Yes, but please note that space is limited at the venues in which the club meets. You may bring your child, but they should know basic gameplay. If your child does not yet know basic gameplay, it may be an overwhelming challenge for them, which may result in an unfavorable and unproductive experience.

You can find chess lessons from other sources, groups, and people. Chess.com has some excellent online tutorials that are great for learning chess basics with your family.


Should I bring a chess set?

It is advisable to bring your own chess set, but we normally have sufficient sets, plus extras.


Does the club charge a membership fee?

No fees are required in order to join the club — just show up and play. Note, however, our club does have voting members who are obligated to pay dues in order to have voting rights on club business matters.


Does the club play for free online?

Yes, we have established a Clubhouse on Chess.com in order for our members who have accounts on Chess.com to play amongst each other. No fees or paid memberships are necessary in order to play. Does the club have a telephone number?

No, the club DOES NOT HAVE A TELEPHONE NUMBER!
