đź“° Community Spotlight: Southern Nevada Chess Club Seeks New Home

It is with a heavy heart that we share news affecting one of our fellow chess communities in the region. The Southern Nevada Chess Club (SNVCC), a vibrant and welcoming hub for players of all ages, is facing an unexpected transition. Due to the sale of the building that houses the Las Vegas Chinese School—where SNVCC has operated for the past eighteen months—the club must vacate its current location by the end of this month.

Club founder and USCF Local Tournament Director Marvin Raab announced that the final adult tournament at the current venue will be Round 4 of the Monthly Series, held this Thursday. The Coffee Tournament scheduled for tomorrow has also been cancelled, though this is unrelated to the venue change.

While the Las Vegas Chinese School will relocate to its NCA campus at Jones and Oakey, that space is only suitable for youth events. Adult tournaments, which have been a cornerstone of SNVCC’s programming, will need a new home.

🏠 What’s Needed for the Next Chapter
Marvin is actively seeking suggestions from the community for a new venue. Ideal candidates would be located near Summerlin or Chinatown and meet the following criteria:

  • One large room (or two mid-sized rooms) to host at least 10 tables / 20 players
  • Availability during weekend afternoons and midweek evenings, with occasional off-hour access
  • Permanent setup for tables and chairs (no teardown required)
  • Safe area with evening and weekend parking for up to 20 cars
  • A separate room for post-game analysis and discussion
  • Space for parents and spectators to wait comfortably
  • Rent under $800/month; shared space arrangements welcome
If you or someone you know has access to such a space—or creative ideas for partnerships—please reach out to Marvin directly via snvchess.com.

🙏 Gratitude and Forward Momentum
We extend our sincere thanks to Min Wang and Wendi Mai of the Las Vegas Chinese School for their generous hospitality and support of SNVCC over the past year and a half. Their partnership helped foster a thriving chess culture in Southern Nevada.

To Marvin and the SNVCC community: your resilience and dedication to the game inspire us all. We stand with you as you search for a new home and look forward to seeing the next chapter unfold.
