It’s Spring! (Spring Equinox)
The spring equinox marks the point when daylight starts to dominate over darkness, as the Sun’s rays directly hit the equator. This moment signifies equal day and night (in theory), with daylight hours growing longer until the summer solstice—the longest day of the year. After that, days shorten again until the autumnal equinox restores balance between light and dark.
However, atmospheric refraction causes daylight to appear slightly longer than night during equinoxes. This happens because Earth’s atmosphere bends sunlight, allowing us to see the Sun for a few minutes before it rises and after it sets. Without an atmosphere, day and night would be exactly equal on these days.

While to my knowledge, there is no correlation between the Spring equinox and chess, we can get creative and explore connections!
The spring equinox symbolizes balance, as day and night are of equal length. Similarly, chess revolves around balance—between strategy and tactics, offense and defense, material and position. Players often seek equilibrium in the game, trading pieces to maintain strategic balance.
Historically or culturally, there’s no specific link tying chess to the spring equinox. However, if you’re looking for poetic or metaphorical parallels, they both can represent a turning point—whether in seasons or in a game.

There is, however, a correlation between the Spring equinox and Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, symbolized by the Ram and governed by the element of fire.
Spring begins with the vernal equinox around March 20th or 21st, marking a balance between day and night. Aries, spanning March 21st to April 19th, takes center stage during this time. Its fiery nature mirrors the liveliness of spring, as both represent a season charged with enthusiasm and vitality. Aries is ruled by Mars, the planet of action and ambition, embodying courage, determination, and a pioneering spirit—qualities echoed in the sprouting greenery and blooming flowers of spring.
People born under Aries often exhibit traits like confidence, independence, and a zest for adventure, making them natural leaders. Spring’s energy complements Aries’ bold drive, creating a synergy of renewal and forward momentum.
Together, spring and Aries represent a season and sign brimming with dynamic potential and inspiring beginnings. Whether you’re an Aries yourself or simply revel in spring’s invigorating charm, this time of year encourages bold steps and fresh starts.
