Patrick Allen wins at 33rd Annual North American Open
Patrick “Pat” Allen, a regular at the Casual Chess Club, emerged victorious in the 33rd Annual North American Open chess tournament. He skillfully won 5 games and drew 2 in the 1900 and under ratings section (Section 4), out of seven rounds. His impressive performance against a pool of 178 players earned him 1st place (tie) and a prize of $4000. The event took place from December 26-30th, 2023, at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. You can check the standings here.
In the previous two years, Patrick participated in the section for players rated 1700 and below at the Annual North American Open. Patrick is a chess enthusiast who has recently performed well in various officially rated tournaments. These include competitions held by Bridgeopolis, a local venue in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the 2023 Reno Larry Evans Memorial, sponsored by the Reno Chess Club, he even shared the top spot.
The 33rd Annual North American Open, sponsored by the Continental Chess Association, was a large, FIDE rated event featuring 9 sections and a total of 1092 players.
