A.B. Hailey in 1976

If you have been going to the Club at Jersey Mikes recently, you may have noticed Albert, the guy in the wheelchair, who always sits in the front of the shop. He’s a long-time Casual Coffeehouse Chess Club (Now just known by Casual Chess Club) member, back when we used to meet at Panera Bread. This is him, playing as White vs. Philip Childress in Lubbock, Texas, 1976. Though it’s hard to see the position at this angle, Albert had defeated his opponent that day. The gentleman looking on, at the time of this writing, is only known by “Abdy.”
